with an outstanding trust
Staff Nurse, Nurse-led Discharge Unit
"I’ve been here since I qualified in 2014 and I always look forward to coming into work. I’m currently a senior band 5 nurse, and you’ll either find me looking after a bay of eight patients or working as ward co-ordinator – discharging patients and managing patient flow.
"Our patients are mainly transfers from the EAU, or step-downs from the HDU. We provide a lot of end of life care too, which can be upsetting at times. But looking after people in their final days is also a tremendous privilege, particularly as we get such positive feedback from relatives about the care we provide.
"My parents own a care home and I always loved being around and looking after elderly patients. But when I started my career, I wanted to work in a more clinical environment. I get so much satisfaction from my job. I never have a boring day or go home without feeling good about something I’ve been able to do for someone."
